Keeneland's racing season is built on prestige and tradition. The 2022 season, enhanced again this year with Lexington's 3rd hosting of the Breeders' Cup and commencing this April, will be especially lucrative as well.

A record $7.7 million stakes program will be featured throughout the Spring meet, run April 8th-29th.

Contributing to the stakes purse increases is a total of $1.5 million available from the Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund (KTDF), pending approval from the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. Purses for some stakes doubled for 2022, most prominently the Gr1 Maker’s Mark Mile, increased from $300,000 to $600,000.

Highlighting Keeneland's two major preps for the Kentucky Derby and Oaks. The and the Gr1 Central Bank Ashland and Gr1 Toyota Blue Grass both are worth 100 qualifying points toward their respective classics.

Other stakes of note for overseas interests include the Gr3 Kentucky Utilities Transylvania S., at 1 1/16 miles on turf for 3yos, run opening Saturday, April 9th; its 3yo filly counterpart, the $400,000 Gr2 Appalachian S. Presented by Japan Racing Association the following day.

Older filly and mare turf standards include the $500,000 Gr1 Jenny Wiley at 1 1/16 miles run Saturday, April 16th and the $300,000 Gr3 Bewitch, closing-day feature at 1 ½ miles.
