Get Smokin showed no effects of his trip abroad when just missing top honors in Saturday's Gr3 Arlington S. at Churchill Downs, placing 2nd to Admissions Office by a head in the 1 1/16 mile turf feature.
Rebounding from an unplaced finish in the Gr1 Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan, the 5yo gelding took up his customary role atop the six-horse field under Javier Castellano. Extending their lead to two lengths a furlong from home, Get Smokin hung tough down inside before yielding to a rallying Admissions Office in the waning strides. Field Pass was another neck back in third among the three-way finish.
The Hurstland Farm graduate was also runner-up one start prior to his Dubai sojourn defending his crown in the Gr3 Tampa Bay S., placing 2nd-bests to subsequent Gr1 winner Shirl's Speight. Get Smokin has finished no worse than 2nd in half of his 18 career starts with earnings over $455,000.
Back at Hurstland, Get Smokin's dam Hookah Lady delivered a full-sister to the MSGW, her third foal by the late Get Stormy in four seasons. She is also dam to a yearling Vino Rosso colt.
