Hurstland Farm's global reach required little time into 2022 to reach the Australian turf. Latizia, first foal out of dual black-type winner Spanish Pipedream, opened her account New Year's Day at Flemington with an auspicious maiden victory.
The daughter of Golden Slipper winner Capitalist emulated her dam winning first time out and in the process earned immediate consideration for Australia's biggest upcoming 2yo stakes.
The Hurstland product by Scat Daddy was born from a 1/2 sister to the dam of subsequent MGSW Get Smokin, Spanish Pipedream first sold to Cromwell Bloodstock for $125,000 at Fasig-Tipton's July Yearling Sale. Off an auspicious Keeneland debut, trainer Wesley Ward added earmarked the filly for the Gr2 Queen Mary Stakes as part of his annual Royal Ascot contingent, in which she placed 4th.
The fleet filly would add a pair of black-type victories at opposite ends of the following year in a much different setting, under the evening lights at Turfway Park in northern Kentucky. Overall her record was good enough to bring $370,000 at the 2016 Keeneland November Sale from Australian interests.
Prior to her producing a first foal, back in Midway, KY, her 1/2 sister Hookah Lady produced Get Smokin, the Get Stormy gelding who has proven a consistent, high-class campaigner with three stakes wins over the past two seasons, including the Gr2 Hill Prince S. at Belmont Park.
