Matenro Gale has Desert Ride (Candy Ride) off the mark as a producer in Japan, and he appears to only be getting started.
The final of seven Woodbine Oaks winner for owner/breeder Sam-Son Farm is dam of the highly-progressive Epihaneia colt, winner at Kyoto Racecourse in his 3rd career start.
The Shimokobe Farm-bred Matenro Gale, an 88,000,000 JPY foal, is a long-striding colt who displayed abundant stamina in each of his three starts. He closed well in two runner-up efforts at Chukyo (video) and Hanshin Racecourses before winning clear November 9th over 2000m with another strong finish.
Daughter of Fun in the Desert (Distorted Humor), Desert Ride is a granddaughter of fellow Woodbine Oaks winner Eye of the Sphynx (Smart Strike) and out of a 1/2 sister to Queen's Plate winner Eye of the Leopard (A.P. Indy) and MGSW Deceptive Vision (A.P. Indy).
The dual Canadian classic winner was acquired by Shimokobe at Fasig-Tipton's 2020 November Sale for $725,000; she foaled a colt by Real Steel this year.
Further connecting his pedigree to North America, Matenro Gale is by a son of Symboli Kris S out of Gr1 Hollywood Oaks heroine Cesario (Special Week).
