Fresh off a nearly five-month layoff, Daisy Flyer (Mshawish) flashed a decisive late kick and nose for the wire to land Saturday's Gr3 Lake George S. at Saratoga.
The Calumet Farm homebred is her Galileo dam Starstruck's first GSW from four black-type earners.
Lake George favorite Classic Q set an uncontested but honest pace and remained two lengths clear into the last furlong. Jose Lezcano remained no more than two paths out from the rail before steering Daisy Flyer to Classic Q's outside late for their winning rally.
The Rusty Arnold trainee had been unraced since early March when finishing fast to place 3rd in the Gr3 Herecomesthebride S. Her sole prior win was a deft 2yo performance at Kentucky Downs when graduating in similar fashion to Saturday.
Dam of six winners from as many foals to race, Starstruck was herself a dual Gr3 winner, landing consecutive editions of the Matchmaker S. for Calumet and trainer Larry Jones.
The Irish-bred import also produced Christiecat S. winner Turf War (War Front), now broodmare at Shimokobe Farm in Hokkaido. Her 2yo colt Turf Star (Caravaggio) is entered to debut Thursday at Saratoga.
