Nearly overlooked as a yearling, Get Smokin is entering the spotlight at just the right time.

The Get Stormy gelding out of Hookah Lady (Smoke Glacken) evoked memories of his classy sire with a smooth-looking MSW victory Wednesday at Belmont Park.

Following up a strong 3rd in his Saratoga debut, the 2yo opened up a clear lead through mid-stretch to graduate with something in reserve. Get Stormy, also a Bush trainee, broke his maiden in December of his 2yo season.

For a modest $11,000, Get Stormy's owner/breeder Mary Sullivan now campaigns a son of her three-time Gr1 winner who appears himself stakes-bound.

Alfred Nuckols earmarked Get Stormy (pictured at Crestwood Farm) for the mating of several Hurstland Farm mares from the outset of his stallion career, and the hardy son of Stormy Atlantic is delivering.

A speedy racemare, Hookah Lady is 1/2 sister to dual black-type winner Spanish Pipedream; their dam Doc's Leading Lady is kin to Gr3-winning turf ace Phi Beta Doc.

Hookah Lady foaled a full-sister to Get Smokin this past season.
