Gulfstream Park debut winner Grande is out of Journey Home, Gr3 winner on turf and dam of all-weather specialist Ticker Tape Home.

The immensely promising Curlin colt however debuted on dirt and couldn't have looked more at home. Grande came out running Saturday for the Mike Repole/Todd Pletcher team, matching strides with odds-on Camp Hale en route to winning a one-mile MSW by 2 1/2 lengths.

John Velazquez sent Grande from an inside draw right up to Camp Hale's outside, making it a two-horse race from the 1/2-mile pole. The well-made $300,000 Keeneland September graduate showed plenty of handiness when asked on the far turn and won ridden out.

Winner of the Gr3 Jimmy Durante S. and MGSP, all on turf, Journey Home (War Front) was purchased by Sam-Son Farm out of Book 2 at the 2015 September Sale for $200,000. Her dam, Gr1-placed Soul Search (A.P. Indy), hails from the Buckland Farm family of champion Pleasant Stage and now includes leading Japanese freshman sire Nadal.

Journey Home was acquired carrying Grande by KatieRich Farms for $650,000 at 2020 Keeneland November. Her daughter Ticker Tape Home (Medaglia d'Oro), bred by Sam-Son, won last season's Gr3 Seaway S. at Woodbine.
