There's always that one mare who insists on being the first to greet a visitor at the gate. From her earliest days off the racetrack, Hookah Lady assumed that role at Hurstland Farm.
The Smoke Glacken mare retired to the same paddocks where she was reared to join a band already occupied by Graded stakes winners and producers. Bred to modestly-priced yet carefully chosen stallions to begin her new career, the congenial mare has wasted little time standing out amongst the crowd.
Dam of Get Smokin', who added the May 22nd Seek Again S. (L) to an already impressive race record, Hookah Lady delivered another exceptional foal in March, this one a colt by Vino Rosso. Winner of the Breeders' Cup Classic and Jockey Club Gold Cup, the son of Curlin joins Palace Malice and Accelerate atop the 3rd generation of Smart Strike's male line.

This mating sees a young sire who was at his best over 10 furlongs atop a mare whose top offspring to date has successfully carried his speed over a mile and beyond on turf. Sire of exceptional classic distance runners on dirt, Smart Strike also endures as a premier American turf influence, including via Curlin, thus affording this colt any sort of future.
Get Smokin has now won three of his past five starts, including two Graded stakes. His 2yo full sister She's Smokin, who matured into one of Hurstland's exceptional yearlings from recent crops leading up to Keeneland September, has joined her older sibling in the NY barn of trainer Tom Bush, once home to their multiple Gr1-winning sire.
The 10yo Hookah Lady was returned to Get Stormy for a third mating in four seasons
