Smart Union resumed her climb up the class ladder Friday, winning a first-level allowance at Tampa Bay Downs.

The JP Evans homebred and 1/2 sister to Mission of Joy earned the 2nd win of her promising career, the first coming at Keeneland's October meet in an eye-opening MSW score.

Rebounding from an unplaced try in her stakes debut, the Graham Motion pupil sat an uneventful trip under Daniel Centeno and gained the lead in mid-stretch under a strong hand ride.

Smart Union is the fourth winner out of Sam-Son Farm-bred Smart Mission (Smart Strike), including dual Gr3 victress and multiple Gr1-placed Mission of Joy (Kitten's Joy).

A 1/2 sister to Canadian champion Irish Mission, Smart Mission was acquired by Evans from Sam-Son's Broodmare Dispersal at Keeneland's 2021 January Sale. She is dam of the Evans-bred 2yo Swerve (Tonalist).
