Lyrical Poetry, a Ballygallon Stud homebred close-related to Haras Dadinco sire Aragorn, earned the family's latest black-type with a 2nd in Sunday's Gr3 Gallinule Stakes at The Curragh.
A graduate on seasonal debut (photo) for Johnny Murtagh, the 3yo Lope de Vega filly moved smartly up into stakes company, staying on well in the 10f Gallinule to finish a length behind the gelding Hannibal Barca.
Lyrical Poetry's dam Luce (Sadler's Wells) is a MSP & 1/2 sister to Aragorn's dam Onaga (Mr. Prospector), both granddaughters of English/Irish classic winner Valoris.
A Ballygallon-bred son of Giant's Causeway, Aragorn debuted in his native Ireland but flourished after being sent to trainer Neil Drysdale in California. There, he won the Gr1 Eddie Read H. & Shoemaker Mile, three additional Gr2 stakes, and concluded his career with a 2nd in the 2006 Breeders' Cup Mile.
Aragorn retired to Lane's End Farm in Kentucky, was relocated briefly to California, then took up permanent resident in San Nicolas at Haras Dadinco. His Chilean progeny include GSW Indio Apache & Magno Alberto.
