Turf Star continued a banner season for Calumet Farm mare Starstruck (Galileo) with a stylish MSW victory on Kentucky Downs' opening day card.

The 2yo son of Caravaggio stretched out to one mile in his 2nd start and closed with a flourish under Frankie Dettori for a 1/2 length decision.

A little reluctant going in the gate, Turf Star looked otherwise right at home over the course. Still 2 1/2 lengths behind pacesetters Ciborio and Thesherriffisnear a furlong from home, the striking colt hit full stride to the former's outside and won going away.

The Graham Motion trainee debuted with a 2nd-place finish sprinting at Saratoga, where prior his 1/2 sister Daisy Flyer (Mshawish) won the Gr3 Lake George S.

Turf Star is the seventh winner out of Starstruck and is also the 2nd straight offspring to graduate at Kentucky Downs following Daisy Flyer in 2024.

Irish import Starstruck won consecutive editions of the Matchmaker S. for Calumet and trainer Larry Jones. She foaled a filly by Calumet stallion Channel Cat this year.
