Only two starts removed from earning black-type behind Breeders' Cup winning stablemate, Diamond Hands made a rather unexpected return to the sales ring Monday. Once again, it did not go unnoticed by those in attendance at Fasig-Tipton's July Mixed Sale.
The Hurstland Farm-raised daughter of Frosted and Love Cove brought a final bid of $375,000 from agent Steve Young, who confirmed the 3yo filly will resume her career in New York. The price just fell shy of the $425,000 paid for Diamond Hands as a 2yo, and further stakes success could prove it to one of the shrewder purchases out of the single-day session.
A big, beautifully-made filly who ran well in all three of her juvenile starts, Diamond Hands was runner-up to Pizza Bianca making her seasonal debut in the Hilltop S. at Pimlico. She was most recently fifth after setting all the pace in a contentious Belmont Park allowance.
Co-bred by Brant Laue and Godolphin, Diamond Hands is the sixth winner to date produced by Love Cove, high-class NY-bred racemare and longtime Hurstland resident.
