A stakes triumph has appeared inevitable all season for Get Smokin. He's now garnered his first.
The 3yo Get Stormy gelding out of Hookah Lady (Smoke Glacken) won Saturday's Hill Prince S. at Belmont Park, reversing a decision to Decorated Invader in the Gr2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame S.
Contesting the one mile standard over a rain-softened course, Javier Castellano made his strategy clear from the break, dictating the pace aboard Get Smokin from post 1. Decorated Invader was gaining late, but Get Smokin is a front-runner with resolve and held off the 124 lb high-weight by a head.
Overall, Get Smokin has two wins & four stakes placings from 10 career starts. Tom Bush trains the Hurstland Farm graduate for Mary Sullivan, also owner/breeder of Get Stormy.
Hookah Lady is dam of a yearling full-sister to Get Smokin. She is due to Vino Rosso.
