A colt by Smart Strike's Gr1-winning son Tom's d'Etat out of Heavenly Sis drew a familiar name to the buyer's column Monday at Keeneland.
Louis Roussel, best recalled as co-owner/trainer of champion Risen Star, paid $70,000 for the well-topped colt out of a 1/2 sister to Instilled Regard.
While a mating of 'firsts', in that the WinStar Farm-bred is also first foal for his dam, there is a wealth of proven class throughout the colt's pedigree.
Heavenly Sis, one of two kin to Instilled Regard sourced when he was a 2yo, is by emerging broodmare sire Hard Spun and hails from the outstanding Phipps family of Blitey, Heavenly Prize, et al.
At 5yo Instilled Regard won the Gr1 Manhattan on turf & early on the Kentucky Derby Trail also the Gr3 Lecomte S. at Fair Grounds, of which Roussel once owned controlling interest.
